Course #511.8: The Church in Crisis

Instructor: Lawrence Kirk (St. John Missionary Baptist Church) Oklahoma City, OK

Course Description:  This class will carefully examine the necessary core teaching and fundamental scriptures defining an authentic Christian life.  The emphasis is on “Holiness” and “Righteousness” as defined by Christ himself, and the Apostles.  The current environment of Christianity can be confusing when the Bible is redefined by men/women with deceptive agendas; compromised by false doctrines; and watered down by worldliness and popular culture.  The path that seems right to man leads to destruction according to Proverbs.  We are seeking to identify the lukewarm Christian behavior and hypocritical Christian lifestyles to avoid falling into these categories.  We want to identify and highlight the Modern Heresies in our Society distinguished by Scriptural Authority.  We want to arm Christians with God’s Truth (St John 8:32).

June 29 - July 2

Instructor: Anthony Harris, (Power Center Church) Las Vegas, NV

Course Description:  In any church in America, on any given Sunday, there are church members sitting in pews, suffering mental illness.  Some we can see with our own eyes (i.e., intoxication, incoherent speech, disheveled, combative).  However, some smile brightly, and are well dressed, articulate; but hide depression, additions, domestic violence, and suicidal tendencies.  They need attention and specific ministries tailored to these complicated needs.

Instructor: Willie Walker (True Love Missionary Baptist Church) Las Vegas, NV

Course Description: This course is primarily designed to discuss serious issues facing teens today such as suicide, hip-hop culture, LGBTQ, and other important and relevant issues facing this vulnerable group.  We want to sensitize them to the dangers they face.   This class will look at and evaluate teens today as Christians and their responsibilities.  We want to weight their thoughts & opinions against the Holy Scriptures.  We are striving to make them comfortable enough to open-up and share what is on their minds about what is going on in their world.  We want to candidly explore issues about their relationships, issues around pre-marital sexually activity, and drug use that is reflected in the general statistics across the nation.  We want to use success stories from teens that overcame difficult teen years to give them hope.  There will be open dialogue about their dreams and desires for the future.  Ask them to clarify and focus on their life pursuits.  The goal is to provide relevant Christian guidance through an open forum of discussion, wisdom instruction, resource materials, and illustrations.  Finally, we want to educate our teens with clarity, compassion, and love from a solid Biblical perspective.
